The short version
- Your voice: sent securely to our servers, used to score you, and then discarded. Never sold. Never used to train models without your explicit consent.
- Your progress: stored on your device and, if you create an account, synced to our servers encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Analytics: anonymized, opt-out, and never tied to your recitation content.
- No ads. Ever.
Data we collect
We collect the minimum needed to operate the app:
- Audio recordings — when you tap record, your audio is sent to our servers over an encrypted connection (TLS) for pronunciation scoring. Our GPU servers process the recording, return the score to your device, and the audio is discarded immediately after — unless you explicitly save a recording for your own review.
- Account data — email and a name of your choosing, if you sign up. Otherwise nothing personally identifying.
- Progress data — which ayahs you've practiced, scores, and timestamps. Used to generate your private progress view.
- Anonymous diagnostics — crash reports and performance metrics, scrubbed of personal data.
How audio is processed
Recitation scoring uses large AI models that require GPU hardware, so your audio is processed on our servers rather than on your phone. Here's exactly what that means:
- Audio travels from your device to our servers over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+).
- The server scores the recitation and returns a result — typically in under two seconds.
- The audio file is deleted from the server immediately after scoring. We do not keep a copy.
- Audio is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and never used to train future models without an explicit, per-recording opt-in.
Data we do not collect
- Contacts, photos, location, microphone background access, or any sensor data beyond the microphone during active recording.
- We do not share or sell any data to advertisers or data brokers.
Your rights
You can export your progress, delete your account, or request deletion of any server-side data at any time by writing to privacy@murattil.com. We'll respond within seven days.
Terms of use
By using Murattil you agree that the app is provided for personal, non-commercial study. The Uthmani text is used under license from verified publishers and remains their intellectual property. AI feedback is a study aid — not a replacement for a qualified teacher, nor a formal certification of your recitation.
